The benefits of using flowers in organic skin care

Tea Flowers

More than simply centerpieces, these multitasking flowers are so much more than pretty faces. Skin benefits from the hydrosols and extracts of these flowers have been utilized for centuries for their soothing, reparative, and anti-inflammatory properties. We’ve added many of these skin healthy flowers into our Puristry line of signature organic skin care, instead of opting for synthetic chemicals and preservatives. Implementing these beauties into your organic skin care routine is easy, and a few can even be utilized as delicious herbal teas for extra internal benefits.

rose

ROSE

This veritable botanical celebrity is perhaps the most well-known flower in western culture, thanks to years of praise through art, poetry, and song. Medicinally this flower has been called upon to ease digestive, inflammatory, and infection related issues, making it an overall ultra-soothing natural remedy for the body. The benefits aren’t only internal however; pure rose hydrosol, extract, and oil are all known for both skin hydration and moisturization, and for soothing sensitive, irritated, or inflamed skin, making it great for treating sensitive skin.

calendula

CALENDULA

This close cousin of marigold resembles a dahlia-daisy hybrid, with elongated orange and gold petals. Each of these delicate petals offers a potent dose of soothing relief that has been praised for centuries, but only recently used in mainstream skin care during the last few decades. Calendula offers anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant benefits for inflamed or irritated skin, making it a favorite for use in organic anti-acne skin care products or for basic daily use.

CHAMOMILE

Most commonly recognized for its use as an herbal nightcap and natural sleep aid, chamomile is a popular treatment for both internal and external health. Antifungal and antibacterial properties make chamomile useful for treating dermatitis, acne, and eczema, adding to its already ample track record of ultra soothing capabilities. The chamomile flower also offers antioxidant content for neutralizing free radicals in skin, making it a useful ally in minimizing environmental skin damage and signs of aging.

lavender

LAVENDER

This stunning purple bloom is a favorite staple at spas worldwide, and has recently gained quite the culinary foothold in bakeries, bars, and artisanal menus across the nation. In addition to being a culinary darling, lavender has also been a supremely beneficial element in soothing skin care for centuries. This antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic flower is a favorite for killing acne-causing bacteria and purifying acnegenic skin, in addition to helping to soothe inflamed skin (i.e. eczema or acne) with its anti-inflammatory properties.

honeysuckle

HONEYSUCKLE

Perhaps one of the most effective natural preservatives in both natural and organic skin care, japanese honeysuckle is truly a floral superhero! When processed with steam distillation or extraction, this flower can be concentrated into a potent phytonutrient able to inhibit fungal and bacterial growth in delicate, plant based formulas. The entire Puristry organic skin care line was strategically formulated with japanese honeysuckle as a first line of defense against formula degradation, and to add an element of beneficial antibiotic properties for purifying skin.
